In its first ever vintage our 2017 Wild Ferment Tempranillo makes an outstanding debut!
Tempranillo (temp-rah-nee-yo) is Spain’s best-known grape variety, most famously found in Rioja. The fruit for our Wild Ferment Tempanillo was grown near Ballandean in the Granite Belt. This is a cool climate region being 850m above sea level. Most of the region’s rainfall comes in Spring feeding the growing buds and shoots. The soil is largely composed of granite, somewhat on the acidic side and is very free draining providing the perfect conditions for Tempranillo.
The indigenous yeast from the vineyard and surrounds have been used to complete the fermentation before being matured in seasoned French and American oak barriques. This allows for the full expression of the Tempranillo fruit characteristics.
This is your ‘night-off’ wine – it’s time to order take out. Pizza, pasta, chorizo and lasagne or maybe you’re craving spicy chicken wings instead. This wine is going to be your best friend, no matter what your crew decide on!
