'Tis the Season

Christmas Day. It looks different for every family, but the common thread for most is it’s the one day of the year we loosen our belts and allow ourselves to indulge in delicious food and wine.

Wine, like perfume, is a very personal choice. Luckily, at Witches Falls we have many different varieties and styles and there are some that really shine when it comes to Christmas and the festive season.

Provenance Vermentino – summer in a bottle. With a refreshing acidity, bursts of finger lime and jasmine, this bright, fresh and lemony delight just does not disappoint. An incredibly versatile wine, it’s divine with seafood, herbaceous or citrusy foods. But it’s Christmas, and this is Australia ...so think prawns. Vermentino will not disappoint and is guaranteed to be a hit with your family and friends.  

Wild Ferment Viognier - Often blended with shiraz to soften, it is known as the “red drinkers” white wine. Think apricots, peach and ginger in a bottle, it is a great food pairing wine.  It has enough body to stand up to a spicy meal but pairs equally well with both red and white meats and rich meals.  If you want to stick to one type of beverage all day then this is a great option! 

Provenance Rosé – the celebration wine. Not only does its colour complement the season, with our hot Australian weather it’s almost the perfect choice to suit anything that is served up on the big day.

Provenance Syrah - Think dark plum and spices, and beautiful fine tannins. Aged in American and Hungarian oak, our Syrah is a sensory delight and will pair wonderfully with roast vegetables and red meat dishes.

Wild Ferment Sangiovese - if you are planning to keep your main meals on the fresher side with plenty of salads, may we suggest doing as the Spaniards do and chill this soft and velvety red? Again, perfect with seafood and pasta dishes and another way to cool down a hot, Aussie Christmas day!

Classic Solera Muscat – If Christmas pudding and mince pies with lashings of cream and ice-cream are on your menu, then why not elevate them to the next level with a drizzle of our sticky, delicious, Classic Solera Muscat. Think viscous toffee, butterscotch flavours, Christmas in a bottle really.  Or…. add a dash to a glass of sparkling water with a healthy squeeze of lemon, some fresh macerated mint leaves and wahla… you’ve got a new twist on the Classic Pimms.

Classic Tawny -   whether you’re skipping dinner and just snacking on a cheese platter or it’s the glorious end to your meal, we love nothing more than pairing our Jambreen Pure Blue cheese with dried figs, apricots and a glass of Classic Tawny. With its dried fruit character and notes of tangerine and raisins it’s like liquid fruit cake.  It also just happens to pair perfectly with freshly brewed coffee. 

No matter what you are drinking and eating, from our family to yours, we sincerely hope it’s joyous, and full of love and laughter.
