It’s Vintage time!
It’s that time of year when grapes are being harvested to be made into wine. This week marks the start of Vintage 2018 and it’s set to be a busy couple of months. Between now and the end of April, approximately 160 tonnes of grapes will be processed.
Witches Falls produces around 180 000 bottles of wine per year and as well as being sold domestically, the wines are exported to China, Taiwan, Norway and the USA.
Making quality wine is only possible by starting with the highest quality fruit. That’s why Witches Falls source the majority of our grapes from the Granite Belt – Queensland’s premier wine growing region. The Granite Belt is ideal for growing grapes due to its high altitude, cool weather and free draining granite soils.
Arriving in the next couple of weeks will be most of the grapes for the white wines including Chardonnay, Semillon, Verdelho and Viognier as well as Pinot Noir – the first of the reds. The winemaking team are breathing a sigh of relief that conditions this year have been kind and the quality and volume of fruit is outstanding.
