It’s the busiest time of year at the winery on Tamborine Mountain! New varieties are being brought in to be crafted into the delicious Witches Falls wine we know. The winemakers are finishing off their days exhausted especially seeing as the winery department has had a bit of a shakeup this vintage.
What is Vintage?
Vintage is the time of year that the grapes are picked and transported to the winery to begin their journey of becoming the wine. It’s an exciting time! Due to the drought at the Granite Belt this year the yields are much lower than we expected and to continue to meet the demand, both in Australia and for export we have some new varieties arriving from South Australia! Tankers carry our precious cargo and can hold up to 40,000 litres. It takes the winemakers the full day to transfer the juice to ensure every single drop is captured. We take pride in being one of the only Gold Coast wineries to produce our wines onsite and don’t think perfection is too much to ask for.
We’ve got a new Assistant Winemaker!
This Vintage, the winery crew, has welcomed Ren to the team, who has loved getting her hands stained in red grape juice. Once again, Al took his annual leave from Queensland Ambulance to join us, making this his 12th vintage at Witches Falls! Jon, as always, is nonstop around the clock, from processing the arriving varieties to preparing the 2019 vintages to be bottled in the coming weeks.
Time for a drink?
While we won’t be able to have a wine tasting of the 2020 varieties for quite a few months as they ferment and age to develop some beautiful characteristics, we are excited that we can still bring our current varieties to you! Our brand new Witches on Wheels, WOW, delivery service is free for all South-East QLD and Northern NSW orders, has same day delivery on orders made before 11am and means that you don’t have to leave your house to keep enjoying local wines.
Stayed tuned for some new releases on their way!
Until next time,
The Witches Falls Crew
